Application: City of Sin

Application for City of Sin...

APPLICATION

PLAYER
↠ Name: Amy
↠ Age: 28
↠ Characters Played: n/a

CHARACTER
↠ Name: Rogue / Marie LeBeau (nee D'Ancanto)
↠ Canon: X-Men Cinematic Universe
↠ Journal: http://theycalledmeacurse.dreamwidth.org/
↠ Canon Point: Immediately following the timeline reset in Days of Future Past - The Rogue Cut
↠ Reserve: http://sinfulmods.dreamwidth.org/2145.html?thread=194657#cmt194657

↠ Age: 32

↠ Appearance: Rogue appears to be in her late twenties/early thirties, is 5’7” tall, and has a petite build. (Prior to her captivity, she was physically fit from training and will work toward this again while in the City.) She has chestnut brown hair with white streaks at the front, bright hazel eyes, and pale skin from being kept away from sunlight for three years. There is a tattoo on her left forearm reading 'M4827' and her back is covered in scars from 'tissue harvesting' and skin grafts from her time spent in captivity during the Sentinel War.

Rogue puts forth a different persona depending on where she is and who she is with. When she's faced with strangers or is in a position where she needs to put on a show of strength, she carries herself tall and moves with assurance and purpose. It's when she's with those she knows that she lets her guard down and can become withdrawn, hunching her shoulders and crossing her arms as if trying to protect herself from the trauma she's already faced. These two appearances can be interchangeable depending on what the situation calls for.

She is almost always fully covered by her clothing, with occasional skin exposed on her arms or at her neckline, and long pants or skirts with tights. Never is she around people without taking proper precautions to keep them safe, and if she is ever in a situation to be with others without her gloves, she will keep a good amount of distance between them and keep her hands firmly in pockets or tucked close to her body to keep the danger at bay.

[Headcanon history]

2006-2008: Rogue decides against taking the drug and returns to her life at the X-Mansion (X3 alternate ending). Three months after taking the "Cure", mutants everywhere began to have their powers reactivated, and a year later Rogue resumes training with Xavier after his return to the mansion. She learns how to partition her mind and lock away the more unsavory personalities she'd absorbed over the years, but control over her powers eluded them. After finishing high school, Rogue stays on as a teacher at Xavier's school, as well as a full member of the X-Men. She teaches French and self-defense classes, and fills in anywhere else she is needed. Her romantic relationship with Bobby Drake ends as they both finally realize they want different things.

2009-2014: Rogue takes a few college classes online, pursuing a degree in French literature, while continuing to teach and travel the world on missions with the X-Men. Remy LeBeau, known as Gambit, arrives at the mansion to join the X-Men as tensions heighten both in Washington and on a more local scale. Remy begins to pursue Rogue romantically, persistently trying to get her to go on a date with him. It takes nearly two years of really getting to know him before Rogue acknowledges her own feelings for Remy and they begin a relationship.

2012: The Mutant Registration Act is finally passed the government begins collecting information on the sizeable mutant population in the US. The rest of the world quickly begins to follow suit.

2013: The Sentinel Program is launched to help deal with the more 'dangerous' mutants.

2014: The X-Men, including Rogue, are forced to flee the mansion as the government declares that all mutants are to be imprisoned, even those without dangerous abilities, and those who resist will be met with lethal force. Shortly after, all humans who aid mutants are imprisoned or killed as well.

2015: Sentinels begin exercising extreme force in their hunt for mutants, destroying buildings to deal with the mutants inside and even entire cities. The X-Men split up to cover more ground as they seek to find a way to save mankind and end the war. Rogue goes with the younger X-Men, including Bobby, Kitty, Piotr, and Remy.

2016: Fearing that they are truly losing the war and their time together is limited, Remy proposes to Rogue and she accepts. With just the two of them present, they say their wedding vows to each other in the ruins of an old stone church one morning at dawn, before leading an attack on a prison camp to liberate the humans and mutants being held there.

2017: During an attack by a group of Sentinels, Remy is fatally injured and asks Rogue to use her powers to allow him to stay with her forever. She absorbs him to the point of death and escapes with the rest of their group, with a fully-formed copy of Remy's psyche in her mind.

2018-2021: Rogue is captured by Sentinel agents/soldiers and taken to a prison camp for processing like other mutant prisoners. When her DNA is scanned and matched to Xavier's records, she is moved to Xavier's mansion, which has been transformed into a high-security facility for further development of the Sentinels. It is there that she is brutally tortured in the name of science as her mutation is studied in the hopes of utilizing it through the Sentinels to take the powers of all remaining mutants.

2021: [Days of Future Past] After nearly three years of captivity, experimentation, and torture, Rogue is rescued by Bobby, Professor X, and Magneto (Days of Future Past: Rogue Cut). Bobby gives his life to give them time to escape and get Rogue to the mountain temple in China where the mutants are staging their last stand against the Sentinel army. She absorbs the temporal phasing power of Kitty Pryde in order to continue projecting Logan into the past. The mission is a success: Just as the Sentinels break into the room, the past is changed, resulting in the destruction of the current timeline. This is the point from which Rogue will enter the City of Sin.

↠ Personality:

Rogue is sassy, stubborn, and strong-willed, refusing to be pushed around or bullied by others. She is also fiercely protective of people she cares about, as well as those who just need protecting -- she will come to the aid of anyone in need, even if it looks to be a losing battle, because it's the right thing to do. During her first years with Xavier and the X-Men, she had a very black and white view of the world, which is seen in the way she was willing to attack Magneto in X2 at the mention of their previous encounter (when he was willing to sacrifice her for the mutant cause). She sees only the villain and not the man or motivations behind his actions, despite having absorbed him and his memories of all the atrocities of which human beings are capable. Recent events have turned everything into shades of grey and she's not quite sure of her moral compass anymore - she too knows what people are capable of, and she has spent years learning to live with the psyches in her mind, even forming a friend/mentor relationship with the 'copy' of Erik. Regardless, she's a passionate person, willing to risk everything for her 'family' and those that need her help, but she can be prone to bouts of irrational anger, like that incident on the X-jet with Magneto, and it's hard to say whether those traits are her own or borrowed from Wolverine, Magneto, or one of the many others lurking in her mind.

Rogue feels very guilty when people she cares about are hurt by her powers, and grieves greatly for those she was forced to kill during her years of captivity as part of the government's experimentation. Her dreams are haunted by memories of their deaths, and of her own traumatic experiences, as well as those she remembers from absorbing others.

She’s the adventurous sort, willing to do things she’s never done before and go places on her own. As a teenager, she planned out a trip to Alaska for after her high school graduation, and it was this plan that she followed when she ran away from home. Hitchhiking alone across the US and Canada, she ends up in some rather unsavory places, but she doesn’t let her fear get to her. She can be a little reckless in these cases, not fully considering all the repercussions of her actions, like when she stowed away in the back of Wolverine’s truck, which almost gets her left in the middle of snowy nowhere. This recklessness only extends to herself, though; she wouldn’t do anything to overtly put someone else in danger.

Rogue won't hesitate to strike up conversations with just about anyone, including big scary mutants with metal claws who don't seem at all the chatty sort, and she'll be perfectly polite while she does it. If she asks a question too personal or says something to offend, she's quick to make amends, as perfectly demonstrated when she refers to Logan's rundown, almost creepy camper as cozy.

Running is her first instinct when she feels unwelcome and unwanted. When her mutation manifests and she puts a boy into a coma with a kiss, she doesn't stick around to wait for her parents to kick her out; at the first sign of them regretting having ever adopted her, she packs and a bag and leaves. After borrowing Logan's power to heal herself at the mansion, she is easily manipulated into believing that the faculty and students at the school are afraid of and angry with her, and it takes only a few choice words to send her running again. It's only when Logan promises that she won't be alone that she agrees to return to the mansion at all.

↠ Powers / Abilities: Rogue possesses the ability to absorb the memories, abilities, personality, and outward physical characteristics of other sentient beings through skin-to-skin contact. No upper limit has been determined for the number of beings she could simultaneously imprint. Upon absorbing another's memories, Rogue also gains any associated emotional responses. Rogue is typically able to control such emotions, however absorbing psyches more powerful than her own results in Rogue’s psyche being supplanted for a short time. Prior to the Sentinel War and her subsequent capture and captivity, Rogue had been working with Charles Xavier to control her powers, but their efforts were met with only limited success.

Because her power is not an 'active' one, during her time with the X-Men she put great effort into being a 'useful' member of the team. This included learning to pilot the Blackbird jet and a handful of other aircraft, and also became proficient enough in a number of fighting styles to lead her own self-defense course at the school.

↠ Languages: Fluent English and French, though her French is heavily accented. She also knows bits and pieces of Russian from spending time with Piotr/Colossus, and some German from having Erik/Magneto as a prominent psyche in her head.

↠ Inventory: No objects beyond the clothes she is wearing - the grey jumpsuit-like uniform she was forced to wear by the scientists at the lab.

↠ Reason for Playing This Character: Rogue has been one of my favorite characters of any canon for over two decades, and I've loved her in every incarnation but connected most strongly with her in the cinematic universe. I identified with her feelings of being an outsider and was intrigued by the psychological elements of her power as well as her own fear of what she could do. As the films progressed and her character became more of an excuse for teenage angst than anything, I lamented what seemed like lost potential for wonderful storytelling - so it was with great relief that I embraced her small yet pivotal role in Days of Future Past and all the potential with her untouched story. In the City of Sin, I hope to be able to explore the emotional fallout not only of Rogue having to deal with the trauma she has faced, but also with having to rebuild her life as the 'sole survivor' of a war that no one will ever remember. She will be forced to deal with her insecurities and forge new relationships, and the panfandom setting of the game will allow her to explore new ways of potentially learning to control her mutation, which would allow her to finally live a 'normal' life.

↠ What is Your Character's Sin?: Envy. Rogue has spent over a decade being unable to touch another person with her bare skin, and that has impacted her relationships, both platonic and romantic. Few people in her life have gotten over the fear of being near her, even if she is well covered. She envies what everyone around her takes for granted - being able to shake hands, give hugs, share a kiss and more with a lover. Many a night has been spent watching those around her with a drink in hand - first caffeinated, then alcoholic - yearning for simple human contact. Hers is a mutation that, while it has proven extremely useful in the field, she wouldn't wish on anyone.

SAMPLES
↠ First Person: [TEXT] My name is Rogue. I'm from the year 2023 and I'm what's known as a mutant - where I come from, at least. I wish I could say that this place is the strangest thing I've ever experienced, but while it is up there, it still doesn't make the top of the list.

I've been told there are others here like me, people with special abilities and powers that "normal" humans might not usually have. It might be selfish to ask, but it would be nice to know I'm not alone in this place. Is anyone really out there?

↠ Third Person: Rogue glanced down at the phone in her hand, a string of text messages from that oh so frustrating Cajun staring back up at her. In the months he'd been at the mansion, it seemed like he'd made it his mission to get under her skin and convince her to go out with him. She'd gone so far as to actually kick his ass to get him to leave her alone, but his persistence was strangely kind of charming.

Not that she could accept the invitation, of course. Remy LeBeau had a reputation for being a real ladies man, and there wasn't any chance of them having a physical relationship like he had with the collection of women at his fingertips. Her failed attempt at a 'normal' relationship with Bobby had taught her that such things just weren't in the cards for her anymore.

A chorus of giggles filled the coffee shop as a trio of teenage girls entered, dressed in tank tops and skimpy shorts, sunglasses perched on their heads. They looked like they’d been enjoying the unusually warm spring weather, and Rogue couldn’t help but shift uncomfortably in her seat as she once again sent up a silent thank you to whoever was listening that most places in Westchester had air conditioning. The long-sleeved shirt and jeans she wore would have been unbearable in this heat if it weren’t for that simple luxury.

The woman at the table beside her was suddenly waving and grinning, catching the attention of the man who had come in behind the trio. He hurried over to her and leaned down to give the woman a kiss before taking the seat across from her as their iced coffees were delivered. Their hands found each other in a way that looked so completely natural that it made Rogue’s chest tight with something that was hard to describe. Longing? Remorse? Envy? Whatever it was, it was her near constant companion.

↠ Notes: Because of the large gap in time between X3 and DoFP and the little that is known about what took place during that time, much of Rogue's history from this time is headcanon. I have no preference over her being classified as a canon or AU version because of this and leave it up to the mods' discretion. Because of this and being from the "Rogue Cut", she is officially classified as an AU in the City of Sin.
